As part of this year’s PAGE efforts on building the capacities of subnational government technical teams, PAGE and local partners led a workshop on waste management on 11-12 February in the locality of Palmar, Soriano Department, Uruguay. Discussions focused on the importance of systematizing achievements and experiences to continue identifying opportunities for greening local economies.

During the two-day workshop, the findings of a consultancy report on local waste management fees were presented, with the participation of the Ministry of Environment. Additionally, ALUR shared its experience in used oil management, and participants exchanged insights on the progress of the green economy agenda at the local level.

The event contributed to SDG17, as it highlighted collaboration between national and subnational governments and SDG12, as sustainable production and consumption were at the core of the workshop’s agenda.

PAGE’s efforts over three years have successfully built a network for a Green and Inclusive Economy, evident in diverse projects and a pool of trained technical professionals. Green policy processes and transformational change in the country have reached local territories through the promotion of Green and Inclusive Economy projects at the local level.

The workshop was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining, UNIDO, CEFIR, and the Network of Subnational Governments for a Green and Inclusive Economy.
