UNEP, UNIDO, and the Policy Research Center for Environment and Economy (PRCEE) conducted a pre-scoping mission to Nanjing and Zhenjiang in Jiangsu province. This was the first official mission since China became the eighth country to join the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) in June 2015.
Officials and experts from Jiangsu provincial government participated in the consultation, including the Policy Research Office, the Department of Environmental Protection, the Provincial National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), and the Departments of Economy and Information Technology, Water, Agriculture, and Forestry and Science, among others.
The departments presented the initiatives, policies and actions they had undertaken towards an Inclusive Green Economy (IGE). Discussions covered the main needs, issues, and challenges facing Jiangsu’s transition towards IGE, as well as experience and knowledge gathered from current practices. Participants also visited local IGE projects, such as the regional energy initiative in New Hexi District of Nanjing, a low-carbon cloud platform in Zhenjiang and eco-industrial park.
Based on knowledge garnered from initiatives to date and the province’s identified priority development areas, PAGE will support the provincial government to develop tailored IGE studies, including sectoral assessments and investment analyses, as well as enabling policies and plans to facilitate Jiangsu’s green transition.
