Kyrgyzstan mountain landscape and road

The Kyrgyz Republic is a landlocked country in Central Asia, with a rich natural heritage and a mountainous landscape. Its economy is primarily driven by agriculture, which employs forty per cent of the population, along with extractive industries, hydropower, and the service and construction sectors. Despite reductions in the unemployment rate to eight per cent, the country faces significant challenges due to land degradation and desertification, threatening both the economy and the environment. In this context, PAGE has supported the transition to inclusive green economy in the Kyrgyz Republic since 2016.
