In view of designing the National Strategy for Circular Economy, the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining of Uruguay (MIEM) and the Spanish Cooperation Office in Uruguay held, on 16 August, a workshop on Inclusive Green Economy for representatives of subnational governments.

This workshop was held in the framework of the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) and counted on the participation of the Undersecretary of Industry, Energy and Mining, Walter Verri, and the general coordinator of the Spanish Cooperation for the Southern Cone, José Luis Pimentel.

The activity aimed to strengthen knowledge, generate meaningful dialogues and realize synergies and possible joint projects and eventually sought to contribute to the design of the National Circular Economy Strategy (ENEC) led by MIEM. Participants included the Development, Environment and Tourism Directorates of the Sub-national Governments. The discussions addressed the topics of Circular Economy and Green Hydrogen.

The inclusive green economy refers to an economic approach that seeks to integrate environmental sustainability, social equity and economic growth. Uruguay joined PAGE in 2017 and celebrated five years of programme implementation in October 2022.

The workshop was held at the Spanish Cooperation Office in Uruguay, which is part of the Network of Training Centres of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) in Latin America.

Uruguay ranks high in the Latin American region in terms of human development and opportunity, and national progress is supported by institutional stability and inclusive social policies. In recent years, the government has integrated sustainable, inclusive and green development into its core pillars of economic development, setting ambitious goals for equality, the environment and a diversified economy.

Uruguay joined PAGE in 2017 and celebrated five years of programme implementation in October 2022. It is now a Graduating Country.

The Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) is an alliance of five UN agencies, funding partners, and 22 partner countries that work together to transform economies into drivers of sustainability.
