The Moroccan Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development initiated on 2 May a series of seminars to redesign its National Strategy on Sustainable Development (NSSD). The ministry sets to integrate the new orientations of the New Development Model and the 2030 Agenda. With a focus on six Areas of Transformation, including water security, sustainable territories, and a low-carbon economy, Morocco engaged stakeholders and partnered with PAGE to drive sustainable development objectives and targets.

The objective of the seminars is to break down the six Areas of Transformation into strategic objectives and indicators, discuss their relevance and feasibility, identify associated targets for each strategic objective, and deliberate on the measures needed to implement the transformational directions and sustainability levers.

The thematic seminars brought together stakeholders from various sectors, including ministerial departments, civil society organizations, the private sector, relevant institutions, and regional associations. The active participation of these stakeholders ensured a diverse range of perspectives and fostered a collaborative approach to shaping the future of sustainable development in Morocco.

The redesigned National Strategy for Sustainable Development will serve as a roadmap for Morocco’s sustainable and resilient future, aligning with global agendas and harnessing the transformative power of inclusive green economy principles.

PAGE activities in Morocco plan to contribute towards the achievement of SDGs 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), 10 (Reduced Inequalities), 13 (Climate Action) and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

The Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) consists of an alliance of five UN agencies, 8 funding partners, and 22 partner countries that work together to transform economies into drivers of sustainability.
