As part of the World Environment Day, PAGE Morocco and the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development (METSD) organized a conference on plastic pollution on 9 June.  The conference included three panels involving various experts and representatives on national institutions that explored the challenges and opportunities in tackling the plastic pollution issue, that were moderated by PAGE National Coordinator for Morocco Ali Benryane.

The event was supported by UNIDO’s Switch2CircularEconomy project, funded by the European Union and the government of Finland. Around 80 participants took part in the event, which was presided by METSD Minister Ms. Leila Benali and Ms Patricia Llombart, Ambassador of the European Union to Morocco.

The year 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of World Environment Day and focuses on solutions to plastic pollution is particularly timely, following the recent conclusion of a second round of negotiations on a global agreement to end plastic pollution in France.

The Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) has grown into a prominent alliance of five UN agencies, funding partners, and 22 partner countries that work together to transform economies into drivers of sustainability by supporting nations and regions in reframing economic policies and practices around sustainability.
