Esther Byer Suckoo

Senator Dr. the Hon. Esther Byer Suckoo hails from Ellerton, St. George where she was raised and schooled then later served as family physician.  In 2008 she entered politics and served as a Member of Parliament for that area in the Constituency of St. George South.

Since then she has held ministerial portfolios of Family, Youth, Sports and the Environment and now Labour, Social Security and Human Resource Development.  She is the chairperson of the Sub-Committee of the Social Partnership.

Guided by her philosophy of being God’s hand of love extended, she is driven to see legislation enacted which protect the vulnerable, such as the Employment Rights Act, the Employment (Prevention of Discrimination) in the Workplace  Act and the Employment Sexual Harassment Act.

She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and was General Secretary and Vice President of the Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners (BAMP).  She was a lecturer, a Sunday School teacher and a Cub Scout leader and has travelled to Africa on medical missions.  She also serves as patron for community and women’s organisations.
