Pavan Sukhdev

Pavan Sukhdev is a sustainability thought leader, an experienced innovator in practice, and an influential voice amongst national environmental policy makers and institutions focussed on sustainable development.

As Special Adviser and Head of UNEP’s Green Economy Initiative and Study Leader of TEEB (2008-2011),  Pavan delivered the landmark and widely appreciated TEEB report suite (‘The Economics of Ecosystems & Biodiversity’) and UNEP’s report ‘Towards a Green Economy’.

Pavan was awarded the McCluskey Fellowship (2011) by Yale University, where he taught a graduate course on TEEB and wrote his book “Corporation 2020”. Based on his book, his campaign “Corporation 2020” (launched at Rio+20) envisions tomorrow’s corporation as one with positive rather than negative externalities and presents action plans for rapid micro-policy reforms to transform today’s business for tomorrow’s world.

Now as Founder-CEO of GIST Advisory (a consulting collaborative that evaluates corporate performance including externalities) and as Founder-Trustee of GIST, (an Indian NGO that prepares green national accounts and green economy transition plans for governments) Pavan’s focus is to demonstrate and mainstream TEEB, Green Economy and Corporation 2020.

A career banker, Pavan delivered TEEB’s Interim Report (2008) whilst still working full time as a Managing Director of Global Markets Division at Deutsche Bank. He is on the boards of Conservation International, Global Reporting Initiative and Stockholm Resilience Centre. His work is widely recognized through awards such as the Gothenburg Award for Sustainable Development (2013) and the Blue Planet Prize (2016).
