Lorna Rutto (above) is a successful young green entrepreneur running a recycling company in Nairobi, Kenya that produces street posts from recycled plastic. Participating in ILO’s Youth Entrepreneurship Facility Programme has provided Lorna with the skills and know-how to create a new green enterprise.

The creation of green enterprises fits well with the national development programme, Kenya Vision 2030. The overall objective of this programme is to create a green economy that provides high quality of life to all its citizens in a clean and secure environment.

Extensive work on green economy has been done in Kenya including the publication of Green Economy Assessment in 2014 with the support of UNEP. In April 2015, a validation workshop was held to help finalize Kenya's Green Economy Strategy and Implementation Plan.
